Beasts of the Mesozoic Protoceratops andrewsi Manufacturer Information:

Protoceratops andrewsi 1/6th scale Dinosaur Action Figure

(First horned face)

Belonging to a group of early horned dinosaurs called Protoceratopsidae, Protoceratops was smaller and lacked the developed horns of its Ceratopsian cousins. P.andrewsi is best known for the ‘Fighting Dinosaurs’ fossil along with Velociraptor mongoliensis. This ceratopsian figure measures just over 12 in. long, stands at 5.5 in. tall and features 19 points of articulation. Includes collectible trading card, unique background display insert and instruction sheet. Packaging features red-foil printing with package art by Raul Ramos.

Protoceratops andrewsi Information:

Protoceratops andrewsi is an extinct species of ceratopsian dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 75 to 71 million years ago. Here's some information about this dinosaur:

Physical Characteristics: Protoceratops andrewsi was a relatively small dinosaur, measuring about 6.5 feet (2 meters) in length and standing around 3 feet (1 meter) tall at the shoulder. It had a beak-like structure at the front of its snout and a frill at the back of its head, which is a characteristic feature of ceratopsian dinosaurs.

Beak and Teeth: The beak of Protoceratops andrewsi was well-suited for cropping vegetation. It had a parrot-like beak at the front of its jaws that helped it efficiently gather and consume plant material. Its dental structure suggests that it was primarily an herbivorous dinosaur.

Fossils and Discovery: Fossils of Protoceratops andrewsi have been primarily found in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. One of the most famous fossil discoveries of this species was made during the Central Asiatic Expeditions led by Roy Chapman Andrews in the 1920s.

Nesting Behavior: Protoceratops andrewsi is particularly famous for a discovery known as the "Fighting Dinosaurs." Fossils of this dinosaur were found in a death pose, with one individual of Protoceratops and a small theropod dinosaur, likely Velociraptor, locked in combat. This remarkable find suggests that they were possibly killed while engaged in a predator-prey interaction or during a territorial dispute.

Social Behavior: The discovery of numerous Protoceratops individuals in the same location has led paleontologists to speculate that these dinosaurs might have lived in herds or at least had some form of social behavior. However, further research is required to confirm this hypothesis.

Feathered Dinosaur: Protoceratops andrewsi belongs to the group of dinosaurs known as Ceratopsia, which includes the more famous Triceratops. Recent research and fossil evidence have indicated that some ceratopsian dinosaurs, including Protoceratops, were likely feathered or possessed feather-like structures on their bodies.

It's important to note that our understanding of dinosaurs is continually evolving as new research and discoveries are made. Protoceratops andrewsi remains an essential species for understanding the diversity and ecology of the Late Cretaceous period and the fascinating world of dinosaurs.
