Sinoceratops zhuchengensis Information:

Sinoceratops zhuchengensis is a species of ceratopsian dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 72 to 68 million years ago. It belongs to the Ceratopsidae family and was discovered in the Zhucheng area of Shandong Province, China. The name "Sinoceratops" is derived from a combination of "Sino," referring to China, and "ceratops," which means "horned face" in Greek. The specific epithet "zhuchengensis" comes from the location where the dinosaur fossils were found, Zhucheng. Sinoceratops was a relatively large dinosaur, estimated to have been about 20 to 23 feet (6 to 7 meters) in length and weighing around 2 to 3 tons. Like other ceratopsians, it had a distinctive appearance, characterized by a large bony frill at the back of its skull and a beak-like structure at the front of its snout. On its frill, it had two large, backward-curving horns and a smaller nose horn. Researchers believe that Sinoceratops was a herbivorous dinosaur, using its beak to crop vegetation. The purpose of its frill and horns is thought to have been for defense against predators or possibly for social and mating displays among individuals of the same species.
