Acheroraptor temertyorum Information:

Acheroraptor temertyorum is a species of small, carnivorous dinosaur that belongs to the group of theropods known as dromaeosaurs. This species is relatively recent in terms of dinosaur discoveries and was officially described in 2020

Acheroraptor temertyorum was discovered in North America, specifically in Alberta, Canada. The genus name "Acheroraptor" is derived from the Greek words "acheron," meaning "river of woe" (a reference to a river in Greek mythology associated with the Underworld), and "raptor," which is a common suffix used for dromaeosaurid dinosaurs. The species name "temertyorum" honors the Temerty family, who have made significant contributions to the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada.

Acheroraptor belongs to the family Dromaeosauridae, which includes a group of small to medium-sized theropod dinosaurs closely related to birds. Some well-known dromaeosaurs include Velociraptor and Deinonychus.

Acheroraptor temertyorum was a relatively small dinosaur, estimated to be about 1.5 meters (5 feet) in length. It would have had a slender, lightweight build.

Like other dromaeosaurs, Acheroraptor was a carnivore with a sharp, curved claw on each foot, which it likely used for hunting and grasping prey. These dinosaurs were likely swift runners and agile predators.

Acheroraptor temertyorum lived during the Late Cretaceous period, specifically during the Campanian stage, which was approximately 76 to 73 million years ago.

During the Late Cretaceous, the area where Acheroraptor lived was part of a diverse ecosystem filled with a variety of dinosaurs, including herbivorous dinosaurs like ceratopsids and hadrosaurs. It was a time when the Western Interior Seaway split North America into eastern and western landmasses.

Acheroraptor is considered to be closely related to other dromaeosaurs such as Dakotaraptor and Dromaeosaurus, and it helps scientists better understand the diversity of dromaeosaurs in North America during the Late Cretaceous.
