Small Parts. Not for children under 3 years.
Meet the Placerias, a giant tusked herbivore that ruled the Triassic! Uncover the secrets of this prehistoric hippo look-alike and its watery world.
Placerias #80024 measures: 6.2" L x 3.1" H
The CollectA Placerias is an excellent representation of one of the Triassic period’s strangest herbivores. This figure captures the bulky, hippo-like proportions of Placerias with a muscular body, thick limbs, and broad barrel-shaped torso.
The head sculpt is particularly well done, featuring the species’ distinctive beak-like mouth and prominent tusks. Fine skin texturing across the body gives the model a rugged, leathery appearance, while the earthy brown and gray paint application suits this swamp-dwelling prehistoric animal well.
The low, sturdy stance helps convey the heavy build of this unusual dicynodont and makes the figure feel realistic and lifelike. Overall, this is a standout prehistoric mammal/reptile model and a unique addition to any Triassic collection.
Placerias was a large herbivorous dicynodont that lived during the Late Triassic period approximately 225 million years ago. Though often compared to a hippopotamus due to its barrel-shaped body and possible semi-aquatic habits, it was actually a distant relative of mammals.
Placerias could grow up to 11 feet long and weigh nearly 2,000 pounds. It used its beak-like mouth to crop vegetation and may have spent much of its time near rivers, lakes, and swampy environments.
