Kelenken was a giant flightless bird that lived in South America approximately 15 million years ago during the Miocene epoch. It belonged to the phorusrhacids, often called "terror birds," a group of large predatory birds that dominated South American ecosystems after the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs.
Kelenken possessed the largest known bird skull ever discovered, measuring over 28 inches long. Standing nearly 10 feet tall, it was likely a fast-moving apex predator that hunted smaller animals using its enormous hooked beak. Its size, speed, and powerful strike made it one of the most formidable predators of its environment.
