Dimetrodon Information:

Dimetrodon lived during the Early Permian period, around 295–272 million years ago — long before the first true dinosaurs appeared. Although often grouped with dinosaurs in toy lines, Dimetrodon was actually a synapsid, a group more closely related to mammals than to reptiles. Its most recognizable feature was the large sail on its back, formed by elongated neural spines connected by skin. Scientists believe this sail may have helped regulate body temperature, allowing Dimetrodon to warm up or cool down more efficiently.

With a long, powerful body and sharp, serrated teeth, Dimetrodon was one of the top predators of its time. It likely hunted amphibians, fish, and smaller terrestrial animals in swampy environments that covered much of what is now North America and Europe. Fossil evidence shows it had differentiated teeth — an early evolutionary trait that later became common in mammals — making Dimetrodon an important species for understanding the transition toward mammalian characteristics.
