The orangutan is a large, ape native to Indonesia and Malaysia. Orangutans are known for their reddish-brown hair and long, powerful arms that can stretch up to twice their body length. They are also known for their high level of intelligence, with studies showing that they have the ability to use tools and exhibit problem-solving skills.

The orangutan population is under threat due to deforestation, illegal hunting, and the illegal pet trade. In particular, the destruction of their natural habitat, which is primarily rainforest, is the most significant threat to their survival. This loss of habitat has led to a decline in the number of orangutans in the wild, with estimates suggesting that there are only around 100,000 left.
