Cryolophosaurus was a large theropod dinosaur that lived during the Early Jurassic Period in what is now Antarctica. The only known species, Cryolophosaurus ellioti, is estimated to have reached about 21.3 feet in length and weighed approximately 1,025 pounds, making it one of the largest predators of its time.
Its most distinctive feature was the unusual crest that spanned the top of its head, sometimes described as resembling a pompadour hairstyle. Paleontologists believe this crest was likely used for display or recognition among members of the same species rather than for combat.
