Velociraptor, meaning "swift seizer," lived approximately 75 to 71 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous Period. About the size of a turkey, it was a lightweight, agile predator equipped with sharp teeth and the enlarged sickle-shaped claw on each foot that made it an effective hunter.
Fossil evidence, including the discovery of quill knobs on the forearm in 2007, confirmed that Velociraptor possessed feathers. This important discovery transformed scientific reconstructions of the species, revealing it to have been far more bird-like than earlier depictions suggested.
