Adult males can grow up to 15 feet in length and are powerful opportunistic predators, feeding on fish, birds, turtles, and mammals. Though often shy around humans, they can be dangerous when threatened.
Conservation efforts have helped the American Alligator recover from near extinction, and it is now considered a conservation success story.
