The wapiti, also known as the American elk, is one of the largest species within the deer family, Cervidae. Native to North America and parts of Central and East Asia, these majestic animals are known for their impressive size and branching antlers. Male wapiti, or bulls, can weigh up to 1,100 pounds and stand about 5 feet tall at the shoulder, while females are slightly smaller. They have a reddish-brown coat in summer that turns lighter in winter and are commonly found in forests, grasslands, and mountainous regions. During the mating season, bulls are known for their loud bugling calls used to attract females and establish dominance.
