In and around the town of Point Pleasant from 1966 to 1967, a number of people reported seeing a large winged creature, as big as a human with glowing red eyes. Some people believe the Mothman only appears before catastrophic events, such as a bridge collapse that occurred in 1967 after the Mothman was sighted. Some people believe the Mothman to be alien or supernatural. Others believe the reported sightings were simply people mistaking a more common animal, such as an owl, a heron, or a sandhill crane, for the cryptid creature. Either way, the legend of the Mothman has captivated people since it was first reported, and sightings continue to this day.
