Triceratops was one of the largest and best-known horned dinosaurs, living in western North America during the Late Cretaceous Period about 68-66 million years ago. It was a plant-eating dinosaur that used its powerful beak to clip tough vegetation.
Its three facial horns and large bony frill may have been used for defense against predators, display during social interactions, and recognition among members of its own species. Triceratops lived alongside Tyrannosaurus rex during the final few million years before the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs.
