Juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaurs were smaller, lighter, and more agile than the enormous adults they would eventually become. As they grew, they underwent one of the fastest growth rates known among dinosaurs, developing stronger jaws, heavier bodies, and the bone-crushing bite that made adult T. rex one of the dominant predators of the Late Cretaceous Period.
Fossil evidence suggests that younger Tyrannosaurus rex individuals may have hunted differently from adults, relying more on speed than sheer power. This change in body shape as they matured likely allowed juveniles and adults to occupy different ecological roles while living in the same environment.
