The Megamouth Shark (Megachasma pelagios) is one of the rarest shark species known to science. First discovered in 1976, it remains one of the least-studied large marine animals due to its deep-water lifestyle and infrequent encounters with humans. Growing to lengths of more than 16 feet, the Megamouth is one of only three known filter-feeding sharks, alongside the Whale Shark and Basking Shark.
