This CollectA Walrus measures:
5" L x 4" W x 2" H.
Walruses have sensitive whiskers called "vibrissae" around their snout. These whiskers are important for locating food on the sea floor. They are extremely sensitive and help the walrus detect prey even in dark or murky waters. Walruses primarily inhabit the Arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including the coasts of the Arctic Ocean and the subarctic seas. They can be found in areas with sea ice, where they haul out to rest, breed, and give birth. Walruses are carnivorous and mainly feed on benthic invertebrates, such as clams, mussels, and other shellfish. They use their strong suction capabilities to draw prey from the ocean floor.
Walruses are social animals often found in large groups known as "herds" or "haul-outs." These gatherings serve various purposes, including mating, protecting young walruses, and resting on ice floes or shorelines.
