CollectA Dinosaur Figure - Shastasaurus #88974
3+ Years
Small Parts. Not for children under 3 years.
The CollectA Shastasaurus model represents one of the giant ichthyosaurs that inhabited the world's oceans during the Triassic Period. Its streamlined body and contrasting dark upper surface and pale underside reflect the marine adaptations of this enormous prehistoric reptile.
The CollectA Shastasaurus measures: 10.3" L x 3.6" H
This CollectA Shastasaurus features a streamlined body with a relatively simple sculpt that emphasizes the animal's overall shape rather than extensive surface detailing. The dark coloration across the upper body contrasts with the pale underside, creating a countershaded appearance similar to that seen in many modern marine animals.
Although minimalist compared with more elaborate prehistoric marine reptile models, the figure represents a less commonly produced species and provides collectors with an unusual addition to Triassic marine displays. The sculpting and carefully applied hand-painted finish make it particularly useful alongside other ichthyosaurs and prehistoric sea creatures.
Shastasaurus was an extinct genus of ichthyosaur that lived during the Triassic Period. These highly adapted marine reptiles developed streamlined bodies and limb structures modified into flippers for life in the ocean. Some species attributed to Shastasaurus reached enormous sizes, making the genus one of the largest known ichthyosaurs.
Fossils attributed to Shastasaurus have been discovered in several parts of the world, including North America and China. The genus was named for Mount Shasta in California, near where early fossils associated with the animal were discovered. Its enormous size demonstrates the remarkable diversity of ichthyosaurs that inhabited Triassic marine ecosystems.
