The EoFauna Anancus Arvernensis presents this extinct proboscidean in a steady walking pose, with the head carried forward and the enormous tusks projecting far beyond the face. The model emphasizes the animal's distinctive proportions, including a broad head, relatively short neck, deep torso, powerful shoulders and hindquarters, and column-like limbs. Wrinkles and folds are concentrated around the neck, shoulders, belly, and joints, while finer surface texture covers the body and legs. The small eyes, broad ears, trunk, and heavy feet reinforce its relationship to other proboscideans, while the exceptionally long tusks provide the most immediately recognizable feature of the figure.

Anancus arvernensis was an extinct proboscidean that lived across parts of Europe and Asia during the Late Miocene and Pliocene, surviving in some regions into the Early Pleistocene. It belonged to a group of elephant relatives traditionally associated with gomphotheres. Anancus was a large terrestrial herbivore with a trunk, massive body, pillar-like limbs, and exceptionally long upper tusks that were straighter than those of many later elephants and mammoths.
Unlike some earlier gomphotheres, Anancus lacked the elongated lower jaw and lower tusks seen in several more primitive proboscideans. Its teeth had rounded cusps suited to processing vegetation, and evidence from dental wear suggests that populations consumed a mixture of browsing and grazing foods depending on local conditions. Its large body and strong limbs were adapted to supporting substantial weight, while the long upper tusks may have been used in display, competition, feeding, or other behaviors, although their exact functions cannot be determined directly from fossils.
Fossils of Anancus have been recovered from numerous European and Asian localities, including deposits in France, Italy, the Balkans, and parts of western and central Asia. Anancus arvernensis is particularly well represented in European Pliocene deposits, where skulls, jaws, teeth, tusks, and postcranial remains have helped paleontologists reconstruct its anatomy and relationships. The genus is scientifically important because it documents a successful lineage of large proboscideans that lived alongside other elephant relatives during a period of major environmental and faunal change before eventually disappearing as more derived elephant groups expanded.
