Tuatara in real-life:

The tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus) is a rare reptile found only in New Zealand and is often called a “living fossil.” Although it resembles a lizard, the tuatara belongs to its own ancient order, Rhynchocephalia, which dates back over 200 million years to the time of the dinosaurs. Tuataras are slow-growing and can live for more than a century. They are unique among reptiles for having a well-developed “third eye” on top of their head, believed to help regulate sunlight exposure and seasonal rhythms. Once widespread, tuataras now survive mainly on protected offshore islands, where conservation efforts safeguard their future.
