Torosaurus latus was a large ceratopsian dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of North America, living around 68–66 million years ago. Closely related to Triceratops, Torosaurus is best known for its remarkably long frill, one of the largest of any known land animal. Its name means “perforated lizard,” referring to the characteristic openings (fenestrae) in its frill. Like other ceratopsians, Torosaurus was a plant-eater with strong jaws adapted for cropping tough vegetation. Though once debated as a potential growth stage of Triceratops, ongoing research supports Torosaurus as a distinct genus, offering unique insight into ceratopsian diversity near the end of the dinosaur era.
