The Haolonggood Tarbosaurus - Yang Lin presents this large predatory dinosaur in an alert, forward-facing stance with its jaws opened wide. The deep skull, thick neck, broad torso, muscular hind legs, and long counterbalancing tail give the model the substantial proportions expected of a large tyrannosaur. Its very small two-fingered forelimbs are held close to the chest, while the widely planted feet create a stable posture. Fine pebbled texture covers much of the body, with larger scale patterns and folds helping define the legs, underside, neck, and face. The open mouth exposes individually defined teeth, a textured tongue, and contrasting interior coloration.
The Yang Lin color scheme combines reddish-brown and warm brown tones across the upper body with a lighter tan underside and irregular dark markings along the head, neck, back, flanks, and tail. Tarbosaurus was a large tyrannosaurid theropod that lived in Asia during the Late Cretaceous, approximately 70 million years ago. Fossils are best known from Mongolia, particularly the Nemegt Formation of the Gobi Desert. Tarbosaurus inhabited environments that included river channels, floodplains, and relatively humid habitats supporting diverse communities of dinosaurs and other animals. Adults are estimated to have reached roughly 10 to 12 meters in length, making Tarbosaurus one of the largest predatory dinosaurs known from Asia.
Like its North American relative Tyrannosaurus, Tarbosaurus had a massive skull armed with large teeth, extremely reduced two-fingered forelimbs, powerful hind limbs, and a long balancing tail. It was a carnivore capable of feeding on large dinosaurs and may also have scavenged when opportunities arose. Potential prey included hadrosaurs and large sauropods that shared its environment. Its deep jaws and robust teeth were suited to delivering powerful bites, while its strong legs supported terrestrial movement across the floodplain environments in which it lived.
Numerous Tarbosaurus fossils have been discovered in Mongolia, including skulls and relatively complete skeletons representing different growth stages. These remains have allowed paleontologists to examine changes in skull shape and body proportions as the animals matured. Tarbosaurus is especially important for understanding tyrannosaurid evolution and the relationship between the large tyrannosaurs of Asia and North America. Well-preserved specimens from the Nemegt Formation have also helped scientists reconstruct the diverse Late Cretaceous ecosystem in which this predator lived.
