The Lipizzaner is one of the world's oldest and most respected horse breeds, originating in the 16th century at the Habsburg stud farm in Lipica, now located in Slovenia. The breed is best known for its association with the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, where Lipizzaners perform the highly skilled movements of classical dressage.
Lipizzaner mares share the breed's intelligence, athleticism, and calm temperament. Although most Lipizzaners are born dark gray, brown, or black, they gradually lighten as they mature, with most adults developing the characteristic white or light gray coat. Their powerful hindquarters, strong backs, and natural balance make them well suited for advanced dressage as well as recreational and exhibition riding.
