The broad skull, forward-facing eyes, and massive jaws immediately convey the strength of this prehistoric hunter.
The alert pose and carefully applied hand-painted finish give the figure a lifelike appearance, making it an excellent addition to prehistoric mammal collections, educational displays, or Cenozoic animal exhibits.
Hyaenodon gigas was a large carnivorous mammal that lived from the late Eocene through the early Miocene, approximately 42 to 25 million years ago. Despite its name, it was not closely related to modern hyenas, but belonged to the extinct family Hyaenodontidae.
Hyaenodon gigas possessed an elongated skull with massive jaws and specialized shearing teeth designed for slicing flesh and crushing bone. Its powerful sense of smell, strong build, and formidable bite made it one of the dominant predators of its time, hunting large mammals and scavenging carcasses when opportunities arose.
