Brachiosaurus lived during the Late Jurassic Period approximately 154 to 150 million years ago in what is now North America. Unlike many other sauropods, its front legs were longer than its hind legs, giving the animal a naturally elevated posture that allowed it to browse vegetation high in the forest canopy. This distinctive body plan made Brachiosaurus one of the tallest dinosaurs ever known.
Adults are estimated to have reached lengths of up to 85 feet and weighed as much as 50 to 60 tons. Despite its enormous size, Brachiosaurus was a peaceful herbivore that spent much of its day feeding on leaves, conifers, and other high-growing vegetation. Its immense body was supported by strong, pillar-like limbs capable of carrying one of the largest land animals in Earth's history.
