Polacanthus, whose name means "many spines," lived during the Early Cretaceous Period approximately 130 to 125 million years ago in what is now England. It was an armored herbivorous dinosaur belonging to the ankylosaur group and is known for the extensive spikes and bony plates covering its body.
Polacanthus walked on four sturdy legs and relied on its heavy armor rather than speed for protection. Measuring up to about 16 feet long and weighing roughly 2 tons, it browsed low-growing vegetation while using its spikes and armored hide to discourage predators.
