Pentaceratops in Real Life
Pentaceratops lived approximately 75 to 73 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous Period. Its name means "five-horned face," referring to the two large brow horns, two smaller cheek horns, and the horn on its snout. It possessed one of the largest skulls of any known land animal, measuring up to 10 feet long.
This large herbivore walked on four sturdy legs and fed on low-growing vegetation using its beak-like mouth and powerful cheek teeth. Its enormous frill and horns likely served multiple purposes, including defense against predators, species recognition, display, and possibly helping regulate body temperature.
