Papo Hammerhead Shark #56010 Review:

Features eye-catching grey body paint with a slight sense of sparkle, this hammerhead shark is almost metallic in appearance. The underside of the figure is a bright white color with black fin tips, while the tail fin also boasts black tips. The front of the hammerhead has distinct scalloped detailing that adds depth and realism to the design.

The figure also has a nice curve to its entire body, giving it a sense of motion as if it were swimming through the water chasing after its prey. The side and back fins also have beautiful curves that add to the overall effect.

The high relief gills on the side of the figure add another layer of detail to the design, giving it a more realistic appearance. And last but not least, the open mouth of the shark reveals a double row of sharp teeth on the lower jaw, adding an element of danger to this already impressive figure.

Hammerhead Shark Information:

Hammerhead sharks are a group of sharks that are known for their unique and distinctive head structure, which is flattened and laterally extended into a "hammer" shape called a cephalofoil. This cephalofoil is not only visually striking, but it also serves a number of important functions for the shark. For example, it allows the shark to have a wider visual range than most other sharks, which is important for finding prey. Additionally, the wide-set eyes on each end of the hammerhead's head allow it to scan more area more quickly than other sharks can.

There are 10 species of hammerhead sharks, which belong to the genera Sphyrna (nine species) and Eusphyrna (one species). These cartilaginous fishes vary in size, with the small scalloped bonnethead measuring only around three feet in length, while the great hammerhead, the largest of the species, can grow up to 20 feet in length and weigh over 1,000 pounds.

Hammerhead sharks are consummate predators that use their unique head shape to improve their ability to find prey. They are known to feed on a variety of marine animals, including stingrays, fish, squid, and crustaceans. Some species of hammerhead sharks are also known to be cannibalistic, eating their own species if need be.
