Dimetrodons in Real Life
Dimetrodon lived during the Permian Period approximately 295 to 272 million years ago, tens of millions of years before the first dinosaurs appeared. Although often mistaken for a dinosaur, it was actually a synapsid, making it more closely related to mammals than to modern reptiles.
Its most recognizable feature was the large sail along its back, formed by elongated neural spines connected by skin. Scientists believe the sail may have helped regulate body temperature and may also have been used for display or communication. Dimetrodon was an apex predator with powerful jaws and sharp teeth adapted for hunting other animals.
