This Schleich Dimetrodon measures 6" x 2.8" x 3.5" (L x W x H).
The Schleich Dimetrodon brings one of the most distinctive prehistoric animals to life with richly detailed sculpting and realistic coloration. The model highlights the species' iconic sail-backed profile, textured skin, and low predatory stance, making it a standout figure among prehistoric collections. The ridged sail structure is carefully sculpted for added depth and realism, while the natural earth-tone paintwork enhances the figure's lifelike appearance.
The model includes a movable jaw for increased playability. Fine detailing around the teeth, claws, and body contours helps emphasize the powerful appearance of this early synapsid predator. Whether displayed alongside dinosaurs or used in educational prehistoric scenes, the figure offers both durability and anatomical character for collectors and younger dinosaur enthusiasts.
Dimetrodon lived during the Early Permian period approximately 295-272 million years ago - long before the first true dinosaurs appeared. Although often grouped with dinosaurs in toy lines and popular culture, Dimetrodon was actually a synapsid, a group more closely related to mammals than to reptiles. Its most recognizable feature was the large sail on its back, formed by elongated neural spines connected by skin. Many scientists believe this sail helped regulate body temperature by absorbing or releasing heat.
Dimetrodon was one of the top predators of its time. It had a long, muscular body and powerful jaws lined with sharp, serrated teeth suited for hunting amphibians, fish, and smaller terrestrial animals. Fossils have been discovered primarily in North America and Europe in environments that were once swampy lowlands. One important feature of Dimetrodon was its differentiated teeth - an early evolutionary development later seen extensively in mammals - making it an important species for understanding the evolutionary transition toward mammalian traits.
