Spiclypeus, meaning "spiked shield," is a genus of ceratopsid dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 76 million years ago. Discovered in Montana and named in 2016, it is notable for its distinctive frill ornamentation, including forward-curving hornlets and unique cranial structure. The nickname “Judith” honors both the star-like arrangement of spikes and a person associated with the discovery. As part of the centrosaurine subfamily, Spiclypeus helps paleontologists understand the diversity and evolution of horned dinosaurs in North America during the Campanian stage.
