Styracosaurus in Real Life
Styracosaurus, whose name means "spiked lizard," lived approximately 75 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous Period in what is now Canada. It was a large plant-eating ceratopsian distinguished by its long nasal horn and a spectacular neck frill surrounded by four to six prominent spikes.
Growing to about 18 feet (5.5 meters) in length and weighing nearly 3 tons, Styracosaurus used its strong beak and specialized dental batteries to slice through tough vegetation. Fossil discoveries suggest it may have lived in herds, providing protection from large predators.
