The Velociraptor is one of the most recognizable dinosaurs, though in reality it was much smaller than its movie counterpart. Living during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 75 to 71 million years ago, Velociraptor was a carnivorous theropod that roamed what is now Mongolia. Measuring about 6 to 7 feet long and standing roughly 2 feet tall at the hip, it was a small but agile predator.
One of its most distinctive features was the long, curved, sickle-shaped claw on each foot, which it likely used to grasp or pin down prey. Fossil evidence shows that Velociraptor was covered in feathers, giving it a bird-like appearance. With sharp senses, speed, and agility, it was an effective hunter and scavenger in its environment.
