In the wild, poison dart frogs secrete toxins through their skin as a defense mechanism against predators. However, frogs raised in captivity generally lose their toxicity because their diet differs from what they eat in nature.
These small amphibians are active during the daytime and primarily feed on ants, termites, and other tiny insects. Their bright coloration acts as a warning signal to predators, a natural defense strategy known as aposematic coloration.
