Spinosaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous Period approximately 100 to 94 million years ago in what is now North Africa. It is recognized by its elongated, crocodile-like snout and the tall neural spines along its back that supported its distinctive sail.
Fossil evidence indicates that Spinosaurus had adaptations associated with an aquatic lifestyle and fed on fish as well as other available prey. Juvenile Spinosaurus would have grown substantially before reaching the enormous size and proportions of a mature adult.
