Kentrosaurus, meaning "pointed lizard," was a herbivorous stegosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 155 to 150 million years ago, in what is now Tanzania, Africa. It was a medium-sized stegosaur with plates along its back and prominent spikes extending toward and along its tail.
Kentrosaurus had a relatively small body compared with some other stegosaurs, along with sturdy legs and a long tail. Its combination of plates and large spikes provided an impressive array of defensive structures that could have helped protect it from predators.
