The Ruyangosaurus in Real Life
Ruyangosaurus was a giant titanosauriform sauropod that lived during the Early Cretaceous Period approximately 125 million years ago in what is now Henan Province, China. The genus was formally described in 2009 and is based on fossil remains discovered within the Haoling Formation. Although known from incomplete material, scientists believe Ruyangosaurus was among the largest dinosaurs ever discovered in Asia.
Estimates suggest that Ruyangosaurus may have reached lengths of approximately 65 feet and weighed as much as 30 metric tons. Like other sauropods, it was a herbivore that used its long neck to browse vegetation over a wide feeding range. Its massive body was supported by sturdy pillar-like limbs, while its relatively small head housed teeth adapted for stripping plant material.
