Ceratosaurus in Real Life
Ceratosaurus means "horn lizard" and was named for its fused nasal bones, which formed the recognizable ridge on its snout. It was a medium-sized theropod, a group of dinosaurs characterized by hollow bones and three-toed limbs. The original specimen is estimated to have measured between 17 and 23 feet long.
Ceratosaurus had deep jaws with proportionally long, blade-like teeth, a prominent ridge-like horn on the middle of its snout, and a pair of horns above its eyes. Its forelimbs were short but functional, with four fingers on each hand. It also had a deep tail and a row of small osteoderms, or skin bones, along the middle of its neck, back, and tail.
