Lanzhousaurus was a large herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period (around 120 million years ago) in what is now China. It belonged to a group of ornithopods related to iguanodonts, known for their strong bodies and ability to move on both two and four legs. One of the most remarkable features of Lanzhousaurus is its unusually large teeth, some of the biggest ever found in a plant-eating dinosaur. These massive teeth suggest it was well adapted for processing tough vegetation, allowing it to feed efficiently on the plants available in its environment.
Fossils of Lanzhousaurus were discovered in the Gansu Province, providing important insight into the diversity of herbivorous dinosaurs in Asia during the Early Cretaceous. It likely lived in a warm, river-rich ecosystem alongside other dinosaurs and prehistoric animals. As a sizable herbivore, Lanzhousaurus would have played a key role in its ecosystem, helping shape plant life while also serving as potential prey for large carnivorous dinosaurs of the region.
