The Safari Ltd. Stegouros is an impressive addition to the Wild Safari Prehistoric World line and highlights one of the most fascinating dinosaur discoveries in recent years. This figure accurately captures the dinosaur's unique blade-like tail weapon, one of the most unusual defensive adaptations seen in any ankylosaur.
Sculpting is strong throughout, with detailed armored skin texture, well-defined osteoderms, and a robust body shape. The paint application uses natural earthy tones with subtle accent colors that enhance the sculpt without appearing overly bright. The open-mouthed pose adds extra character and display appeal, making this an excellent model of a rarely produced species.
Stegouros was a small ankylosaurian dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period approximately 72 to 75 million years ago in what is now southern Chile. It is best known for its unique tail weapon, which resembled a flat, bladed club unlike the rounded tail clubs of other ankylosaurs.
Measuring roughly 6.5 feet in length, Stegouros was relatively small but likely well-defended thanks to its armor plating and specialized tail. Its discovery provided important insights into the evolution of armored dinosaurs in the Southern Hemisphere and revealed a body plan unlike that of previously known ankylosaurs.
