Bright and detailed paint on the under belly of the shell and the extended front flippers are the most unique features of the Safari Ltd. Leatherback Turtle.

The Safari Ltd. Leatherback Turtle #202429 measures: 4" L x 5" W x 1.25" T.

Safari Ltd. Leatherback Turtle #202429 Review:

Overall figure is well shaped and the top of the shell exhibits nice front-to-back ridges with a relatively solid dark grey color with subtle lighter grey dots. The underbelly boasts highly detailed paintwork, featuring white stripes and dots that add realism and enhance the overall aesthetic appeal.

The front flippers of the figurine are impressively spread wide, capturing the powerful and graceful nature of these magnificent creatures.

The eye of the figurine stands out with the white coloration around the eyes. While the overall coloring, except for the belly, appears rather homogeneous, it does not detract from the overall quality and charm of the figurine.

Leatherback Turtle Information:

Leatherback turtles are the largest of all sea turtles, with their impressive size and unique features setting them apart. Unlike other turtles, leatherbacks possess a leathery shell that sets them apart from their bony-shelled counterparts. This adaptation allows them to dive to extreme depths, reaching over 1,000 meters in search of their primary food source: jellyfish.

These remarkable turtles have a wide global distribution, inhabiting both tropical and temperate waters. They undertake long-distance migrations, crossing vast oceans to reach nesting beaches. Leatherbacks are known for their distinctive nesting behavior, with females returning to the same beach where they were born to lay their eggs.

Leatherback turtles play a crucial ecological role by controlling jellyfish populations, contributing to the balance of marine ecosystems. However, they face numerous threats, including habitat loss, pollution, climate change, and incidental capture in fishing gear.

Conservation efforts are essential to protect leatherback turtles. Initiatives such as beach protection, reducing plastic pollution, implementing turtle-friendly fishing practices, and raising awareness about their conservation status are crucial to ensure their survival in the wild.
