The Blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus) is a deep-sea fish found off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand, typically living at depths of 600 to 1,200 meters. Its gelatinous body helps it withstand extreme pressure while conserving energy in the deep ocean. Although famous for its “melting” appearance out of water, the blobfish looks much more normal in its natural habitat. It feeds primarily on crustaceans and other small seafloor creatures.
