A finely detailed Mojo model capturing the bold markings and classic posture of the spotted woodpecker, one of Europe's most recognizable woodland birds:
The Mojo Spotted Woodpecker measures: 3" L x 1.2" W x 2" H
Mojo's Spotted Woodpecker captures the distinctive appearance of this familiar woodland bird with realistic proportions and carefully applied markings. The figure features the classic black-and-white plumage pattern, bold white shoulder patches, and the bright red area beneath the tail associated with the greater spotted woodpecker. The pose suggests the bird pausing against a tree trunk, reflecting the natural climbing posture woodpeckers use while searching for insects beneath bark.
The sculpt includes subtle feather texture and a strong pointed beak that reinforce the species' specialized lifestyle. The paintwork is crisp and field-guide accurate, making the figure easy to recognize in wildlife displays or educational collections. Its compact size also allows it to fit naturally into forest-themed scenes alongside other woodland birds and animals.
Spotted woodpeckers, particularly the greater spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), are widespread across Europe and much of Asia. They inhabit forests, parks, gardens, and wooded countryside where mature trees provide nesting sites and feeding opportunities. Their black-and-white plumage, red under-tail markings, and sharp chisel-like beak make them easy to identify.
These birds are highly adapted for climbing tree trunks. Strong feet with gripping claws and stiff tail feathers help support their body as they move vertically along bark surfaces. Woodpeckers use rapid drumming on trees both to locate insects hidden beneath bark and to communicate territory ownership during breeding season. They excavate nesting cavities in dead or softened wood, where they raise their young in protected chambers inside the tree.
