Deinocheirus Blue Grey Review:

This is an attractive Deinocheirus model. Plenty of texture from the scaled legs and claws to the fine feathers covering much of this figure. Painted well, with a light-yellow belly and throat contrasting the dark grey feathers and blue face. The jaw opens and closes, figure balnces without the assistance of a stand.

Deinocheirus Information:

Deinocheirus is a genus of large ornithomimosaur, a group of theropod dinosaurs characterized by their long necks and toothless beaks. The name "Deinocheirus" means "terrible hand," referring to the large, clawed arms that were initially the only known remains of the dinosaur.

The most famous specimen of Deinocheirus, known as Deinocheirus mirificus, was discovered in Mongolia in the 1960s but remained a mystery for decades due to the lack of a complete skeleton. The initial discovery consisted only of massive arms with huge, 8-foot-long (2.4 meters) claws, leading to much speculation about the appearance and lifestyle of the dinosaur.

In 2014, scientists finally unearthed a nearly complete skeleton of Deinocheirus, providing valuable insights into its anatomy and habits. It was one of the largest ornithomimosaurs, estimated to have been around 36 feet (11 meters) long and weighing up to 6.4 tons. Its distinctive features include a humped back, a wide, duck-like beak, and a sail-like structure on its back formed by tall neural spines.

Deinocheirus likely lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 70 million years ago, in what is now Mongolia. Its diet is believed to have been omnivorous, consisting of a variety of plants, small animals, and possibly even fish. Its massive claws were probably used for digging and gathering food from water sources, rather than for hunting or defense.

The discovery of a nearly complete skeleton of Deinocheirus was a significant breakthrough in understanding the diversity and evolution of theropod dinosaurs, shedding light on the unique adaptations of these fascinating creatures.
